The academic program is enriched by project-based learning, writing across the curriculum, and STREAM (Science/Technology/Religion/Engineering/Art/Math). Student learning is showcased during Family Open House in the fall and Family Art Gallery in the spring. Families also attend the Christmas program and Spring play. All are invited to the OLQP Science Fair.
The Private Schools Interscholastic Association district competition is usually in March while the state meet is usually in May. Additionally, students participate in Robotics, Learning Garden activities, and more.
Technology supports the academic program. Middle school students are 1:1 with Chromebooks, a class set of Chromebooks is available for all classes to use in the STREAM lab, and a shared set of Chromebooks is available for use in lower elementary. The Early Childhood classes have iPads available for student use. Each classroom is equipped with a set of computers for student use, an ITEACH interactive white board as well as document cameras. The STREAM Lab has 3D printers. The computer lab has a class set of computers. All students attend technology classes. The lab is available for teachers to use for class projects as well. Many resources are available to parents for use at home via the school’s online subscriptions. The resource and log in information is sent home annually.
The school library also supports the academic program. Students visit the library at least weekly to check out books. The library supports the use of the school’s Accelerated Reader program. Student achievement in reading is celebrated quarterly.
Our Lady Queen of Peace offers a comprehensive, full-day, academic Pre-Kindergarten program. A half-day program is available as well for both PreK-3 and PreK-4. Kindergarten rounds out the early childhood program. The program is developmentally appropriate and serves the needs of the whole child by providing not only readiness skills but opportunities to learn at the individual student’s pace. The individual child is nurtured and learns how to share and use their words in a Christian environment.
The OLQP program uses a hands-on, activities-based approach to develop readiness skills for reading, language, and math, social skills, and both gross motor and fine motor skills. The program is enriched by themed units of study, guest speakers, and field trips. Students benefit from classes in the STREAM lab and computer lab.

The religion curriculum is at the heart of the school. Students begin the day with prayer. In pre-school, the students participate in prayer in their classrooms. Grades Kindergarten through 8th grade gather in Marian Hall for morning prayer. Middle school leaders facilitate prayer and mentor younger students. Scripture, lives of the saints, traditional prayers, and devotions are the focus. The community comes together to celebrate special feast days such as All Saints Day and May Crowning. Mass is celebrated weekly.
Students deepen their knowledge and understanding of God, Church, community and the world. They are given the tools and encouraged to deepen their spiritual life through prayer, Sacred Scripture and the Sacraments. Social justice concepts are taught to each grade level, taking into account their maturity and ability to appreciate and appropriately comprehend the issues presented.
As students mature through the OLQP program, they continue to develop a deeper relationship with God in prayer and in daily interaction with each other. They participate in mentoring and service in order to see themselves as God’s instruments in the world and as agents for good. The students are expected to live an authentic Christian life and are challenged to follow Jesus: “What would Jesus do?” is the clarifying question.
Each year, OLQP 5th grade students have the wonderful experience of attending the Archdiocesan environmental camp – Camp Kappe. The School of Environmental Education (S.E.E.) is an accredited school offering a supplemental education program to the parochial schools of the area. S.E.E. provides a four-day outdoor experience of God’s gift of nature while studying life cycles, food chains, the environment’s effect on man, man’s effect on the environment, conservation of resources, etc. It offers hands-on experience with farm animals and gardening along with many other exciting adventures in outdoor education.
Each year, OLQP hosts a science fair. Participating in the fair supports the development of many skills: curiosity, discovery learning, academic research, data collection and analysis, and presentation skills.

All students are eligible to participate. In lower elementary, beginning in 4th grade, students are required to participate. Science teachers mentor students and teach the scientific method. Beginning in middle school, engineers and scientists from the community-at-large mentor students and provide feedback as students progress through the project.
The final product is then judged by area teachers, scientists, and engineers at the OLQP Science Fair. Students may choose to enter their projects in the Brazoria County Science Fair.
