In the words of Foundress, Sister Antoinette Peltier:

“Every work needs preparation. It seems that God works out His design by first putting that desire in someone’s heart and then bringing it to fulfillment. He worked that way with Our Lady Queen of Peace, writing straight with crooked lines, choosing a very ordinary young woman to do the groundwork for Him and giving her the background and temperament necessary to get the job done.”

In 1982, Sr. Mary Antoinette Peltier, was missioned to her hometown of Danbury to be the Director of Religious education for Angleton and Danbury. During this time, she approached individuals looking for support to start a Catholic school to serve the families of southern Brazoria County.

In 1985, she visited Medjugorje, Yugoslavia while on a trip to Rome and the Holy Land. It was here that she felt Heaven blessed the project of the school. While only receiving lukewarm interest in the idea of a Catholic School in prior years, Sister was now finding that it was an idea whose time had come. From that time on, the people, finances, and materials would miraculously be sent as needed.

After some nine months of intensive research, Sr. Antoinette wrote a proposal which was presented to Bishop Fiorenza by John and Dorothy Wilbeck of Angleton. In May, Sr. Received word that Bishop had approved the opening of the school. This was followed by written confirmation on May 26, 1986.

There was a new dilemma– Approval was received but a location was needed. It was suggested that school representatives should approach St. Michael’s Catholic Church about using a section of their C.C.E. building. St. Michael’s would soon give permission to use eight of the rooms in the educational building.

With full faith in God, plans proceeded. The opening day of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School was scheduled for September 2, 1986. Brazoria County now had a Catholic school for the first time since the closure of St. Mary Star of the Sea some 20 years earlier. The Faith of the parents registering their children that first year was admirable. They came to a room containing only a desk, a telephone, a three-hole punch, and some cardboard boxes.

In prayer, Sister had told God that if only 60 student would enroll, that the new school would be worth the effort. That first year, 67 children were enrolled!

During the Christmas holidays of 1986, Our Lady Queen of Peace moved to the neighboring Parish of St. Jerome’s Catholic Church and conducted classes in the Parish Hall.

In February of 1987, an 18.5 acre tract of land was purchased on Hwy 2004. Under the direction of Mr. Earl Landry, a permanent facility was designed. The 16,800 square foot building was complete on August 13, 1988, and the permanent home of Our Lady Queen of Peace was established at 1600 Hwy 2000 Richwood, TX.

The building expanded to include an additional 23,130 square feet that included a full size gymnasium, stage, full service kitchen/ cafeteria, ten additional classrooms, and a chapel for a total of 39,930 square feet. The addition was dedicated in February, 2000.

In 2012, the Board of Trustees purchased an additional 12.31 contiguous acres bringing OLQP’s total acreage to 31.02.

In 2015, three portable buildings with 6 classrooms were added to the campus providing space for ancillary classes and extra-curricular activities such as Robotics Team. Additionally, security fencing, gates, and a security door at the front entrance were added.
